Development and Improvement of Electricity Transmission Systems – Year 2009/10 - Electricity

The implementation of following transmission development activities is expected to ensure a reliable power supply and reduce transmission losses of the national grid. Approximated Cost will be Rs. 4,024 Million.

Upper Kotmale Hydro Power Plant - Year 2009/10 - Electricity

This hydro power plant will hold a capacity 150 MW.  It will be considered a part of the national programme to establish low cost power plants. Approximated Cost will be Rs. 38,219 Million.

Kerawalapitiya Power Plant – Year 2008. - Electricity

The project aims to construct a 270 MW Thermal Power Plant to boost the supply of electricity in order to meet the growing demand in the short term.  Approximated cost will be Rs. 34,267 Million.

Construction of Flyovers – Year 2013 - Highways

The road capacity in the city of Colombo and its suburbs has not kept pace with the rapid increase in the number of vehicles.  This has resulted in the severe traffic congestion with vehicle speed being reduced upto 12 km per hour in the morning and evening.  Road widening alone would not be able to provide a full practical solution to the traffic congestion problem.  Therefore, construction of flyovers at strategically selected junctions is considered to be a means to reduce the traffic congestion.  The following 17 flyovers will be construction in the Colombo City and its suburbs.

The National Highway Network – Road Improvement (A and B) – CompleteYear 2012 - Highways

Improvement and development of A and B grade routes of the national Road network are underway.

Katunayake-Anuradhapura Road – Year 2012 - Highways

This road encompasses a 150 km, from Katunayake to Anuradhapura covers:

Colombo-Katunayake Expressway – Year 2012 - Highways

This project encompasses a 25 km, four-lane expressway from Colombo to Katunayake Airport with five flyovers at Kelaniya, Peliyagoda, Ja-Ela, Kerawalpitiya and Katunayake. Cost    Rs. 27,000 million

Colombo-Kandy Expressway – 2012 - Highways

At Cost of  Rs. 65,000 million,The project comprises of a 100 km, four-lane expressway between Colombo and Kandy, with connection to the Outer Circular Road at Kadawata.

Construction of Bridges – Year 2011 - Highways

At Cost Rs. 13,750 million, this project will completed in year 2011.

Successful Development Projects Over Rs. 500 Million - Rural Infrastructure Development Initiatives

Southern Expressway – Year 2011 - Highways

Cost    Rs. 67,195 million,The length of the Southern Expressway is 128 km with 4 lanes from Kottawa to Matara. This will be constructed with 11 flyovers crossing the following junctions.

Outer Circular Road – Year 2011 - Highways

Cost    Rs. 86,882 million,The length of this road is 28 km, from Kottawa to Kerawalpitiya.  The Outer Circular Road connects the Southern Expressway, the Colombo-Kandy Expressway and the Colombo-Katunayake Expressway at selected junctions.
