Large number of higher education institutes including Universities and
advance technological institutes have been damaged by the Tsunami which
happened in December 2004. the project aims to supply and provide the
necassary equipment and civil work required for the reconstruction of
the ATIs at Labuduwa, Ampara Trincomalee and Jaffna.
The Tangalle water supply project, opened at the end of August 2008, will bring safe drinking water thousands of people in southern Sri Lanka. The government project is being run in cooperation with UNICEF.
Urban Development and Sacred Area Development Ministry has launched a program through the National Physical Planning Department and Urban Development Authority to expedite preparation of a regional plan for the Northern Region together with development plans for main cities identified such as Jaffna.
The Re-awakening Project launched under the Nation Building and Estate Infrastructure Development Ministry with World Bank financial assistance has taken the initiative to rehabilitate the main four irrigation schemes in the Northern Province at a cost of Rs 835 million, Project Director P.H. Sugathadasa said. The project has allocated Rs 385 million for Giants Tank in Mannar district and Rs 200 million for Iranamadu in the Kilinochchi district.
The Government will launch two new rail-bus services between Gal Oya and Trincomalee and Gal Oya and Batticaloa in the Eastern Province under the Negenahira Navodaya project.
