These comments were made by President Mahinda Rajapaksa addressing the Polonnaruwa District Development Committee meeting last Saturday after laying the foundation stone for the MihiMeth Holiday Resort in Polonnaruwa.
The three storey holiday resort will comprise 500 rooms, and it will provide accommodation to local and foreign tourists who visit the Polonnaruwa sacred city.
Speaking further the President said government officials are entrusted with the responsibility of assisting the public in obtaining redress to their problems while performing an exemplary role in the service of the state.
At this meeting, the President focused his attention towards burning problems in the Polonnaruwa district such as teacher shortage, scarcity of drinking water, issues relating to farming, fishing, animal husbandry, health needs, irrigation, urban development, highways etc.
The President pointed out the value of using organic fertilizer for farming activities, and stressed the need for accelerating road development projects in the district. He advised officials to maintain the quality of development activities especially where road construction activities are concerned, since it was found that certain roads constructed were damaged within a short period.
The President also instructed officials to implement a transparent teacher transfer policy.
